Planning a Trip to a Summer Festival
ANNOUNCER: Section 1. You will hear a conversation between two friends called George and Nina about a summer music festival. First, you have some time to look at questions 1 and 2. You will see that there is an example that has been done for you.
NINA: Hi, George. Glad you're back. Loads of people have phoned you.
GEORGE: Really?
NINA: I felt just like your
secretary.
GEORGE: Sorry. I went to the
library this afternoon to read a
newspaper, and I found something really interesting.
NINA: What? A book?
GEORGE: No, a
brochure from a
summer festival, mainly
Spanish music. Look, I've got it here.
ANNOUNCER: George says that he found a brochure from a festival, so B has been circled as the answer.
NINA: Spanish music. I really love the
guitar. Let's have a look.
NINA: What's this group called
Guitarrini?
GEORGE: They're really good. I saw a
video of the festival in the library lobby.
GEORGE: They play
drums,
flutes, and different kinds of
guitars. I've never heard anything like it.
NINA: Sounds amazing.
GEORGE: Shall we go to the festival?
NINA: Yes, let's.
GEORGE: The only problem is that there are no
cheap seats. All tickets cost the same.
NINA: In that case, we could sit at the
front and get a great view.
GEORGE: Maybe, but I think you can hear the music better from the
back.
NINA: Anyway, we can decide when we get there.
ANNOUNCER: Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions 3 to 10. Now listen and answer questions 3 to 10.
NINA: Shall I fill in the
booking form?
GEORGE: I'll do it.
GEORGE: Name:
George O'Neill.
GEORGE: Address:
48 North Avenue, Westsea.
GEORGE: Do you remember our new
postcode?
NINA: Yes, it's written here:
WS62YH.
NINA: Do you need the
phone number too?
GEORGE: Yes please.
NINA: It's
01674553242.
NINA: Let's book
two tickets for
Guitarrini.
GEORGE: OK, if you're happy paying
£7.50 each.
GEORGE: What about the
singer?
NINA: I wasn't sure at first, but there's something interesting on the form.
GEORGE: What?
NINA: Free refreshments.
GEORGE: Really?
NINA: Yes. The concert on
Sunday 17 June costs
£6.00 and includes
drinks in the garden.
GEORGE: That sounds like a great deal.
NINA: Let's book
two tickets for that as well.
NINA: What about the
pianist on
22 June?
GEORGE: That's my
evening class night.
NINA: That's fine. I'll go
alone.
NINA: But we can both go to the
Spanish dance and guitar concert.
GEORGE: Yes, and we could invite
Tom and
Kieran.
GEORGE: Wow! Tickets are
£10.50 each. We'll need
four tickets.
NINA: Look,
students,
children, and
senior citizens get a
50% discount.
GEORGE: If only we were students!
ANNOUNCER: That is the end of Section 1. You now have half a minute to check your answers.
